Some people believe that news do not connect directly to people’s lives so it is considered a waste of time to read newspaper and watch news on the TV. I completely disagree with this opinion.
On the one hand, some people do not enjoy following news due to a number a reasons. Firstly, they think that news is paucity of personal connection, they find it hard to see how global events, international politics, complex economic issues and scientific breakthroughs related to their lives. They seem distant and abstract to people from middle and low class. Therefore, it stands to reason that people would have perception that no need to stay informed. Secondly, in the contemporary world, news is not presenting information in an unbiased and objective way. Thus, this could erode the trust of people in media outlets and they may question motives behind the news coverage.
On the other hand, despite some mentioned drawbacks, news provides humanity a large quantity of benefits. First and foremost, news bring us information about current events associating with economic trends and market conditions so some people, especially young people, can stay informed about changes in job market and investment opportunities, which can influence their career moves, college decisions and investment choices. Secondly, news could raise awareness of local and global events about the potential risks, weather condition and health alerts. Thus, individuals can take necessary precautions so they can protect themselves and family. For instance, in Covid-19, news was instrumental in helping residents to gain latest information about the pandemic so that they can have preparedness for their safety. Were people not to follow news, this would contribute to an increase in the death rate.
In conclusion, news plays an important role in individuals’ daily life so it is of paramount importance to keep up with what is going on around the world in order to benefit their crucial choices and security of their family.
