In my opinion, I agree that students perform better in school when they are rewarded rather than punished. But both rewards and punishments can influence student’s behaviour, the positive effect provided by rewards tends to have a more significant impact on their academic performances and overall motivation. Firstly, rewards serve as a powerful motivator for students. When students receive recognition for their achievements, it reinforces their efforts and encourages them to continue working hard. For example, a student who performs well on exams and receives praise or a small prize for their efforts is likely to feel a sense of accomplishment and be motivated to maintain their high performance. This positive reinforcement creates a cycle of success, leading to improved academic results. Moreover, rewards foster a positive learning environment. When students are rewarded for their achievements, it creates a sense of partnership and healthy competition among them. This can lead to a more supportive and collaborative atmosphere in the classroom, where students are motivated to study, interested in making new friends and they are ready to learn from each other. On the other hand, a punishment-based approach can create fear and anxiety, reducing the chance of getting positive relationships and interesting learning process. However, some people argue that punishments are necessary to discipline students and teach them about consequences. It is true, that discipline is important, but punishments often lead to negative emotions and can demotivate students. Instead, alternative approaches such as constructive feedbacks and guidance can be more effective in helping students to understand the consequences of their actions and learn from their mistakes. In conclusion, I strongly believe that students perform better in school when they are rewarded rather than punished. Rewards serve as a positive motivator, fostering a supportive learning environment and encouraging students to strive for excellence. By adding a balanced approach that combines rewards with constructive feedback, educators can create an environment that promotes students’ success and personal growth.
