The charts illustrate how much average prices per kilometre of clothing imported into the European Union from six different nations between 1993 and 2003.
Overall, the average prices of clothing from China, India and Bangladesh recorded upward trends, while the opposite was true for the remaining categories. Notably, the figure for Brazil’s clothing remains unchanged in both surveyed years, whereas Argentina was still the highest point.
Looking first at the downward prices of clothing, although the average price of Argentina garments experienced a minor decrease, from 30 pounds in 1993 to over 25 pounds in 2003, this figure was the leading situation in both years. A similar fall was recorded in Japan’s clothing expenditure level, which declined slightly by 3 pounds. Remarkably, Brazil’s apparel price level remained stable, with 23 pounds, and became the second top price during the period.
Turning next to the upward prices of garments, the average clothing prices from China increased considerably, growing to approximately 16 pounds in 2003, up from the initial level of 10 pounds. This figure surpassed Japan’ clothing cost to rank third. A comparable pattern occurred in the clothing prices from India and Bangladesh. While the former increased significantly by 5 pounds, the latter climbed to a lower level by 4% in 1993.
