The line graph illustrates changes in the number of daily active Facebook users (in millions) in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand over the period from 2007 to 2014.
Overall, Vietnam recorded a strong and uninterrupted upward trend, eventually becoming the largest Facebook market among the three countries. By contrast, Thailand experienced a dramatic and continuous decline, while Cambodia’s figures fluctuated considerably throughout the period.
At the beginning of the timeline, Thailand dominated with approximately 25 million daily users in 2007, which was five times higher than Vietnam’s figure of just 5 million. Cambodia ranked in between, at around 10 million users. Vietnam then saw rapid and consistent growth year by year, doubling its user base by 2008 and continuing to rise steadily. By 2011, Vietnam had overtaken both Cambodia and Thailand, and its numbers peaked at about 25 million users in 2014.
Cambodia’s trend was far less stable. User numbers rose to roughly 15 million in 2008, dipped slightly in 2009, and then climbed again in 2010. However, this was followed by a sharp fall in 2011, before a partial recovery in the final years, ending at around 18 million in 2014.
In contrast, Thailand’s daily active users declined steadily throughout the period, dropping from 25 million in 2007 to only 5 million by 2013, after which the figure remained unchanged.
