Overall, the percentage of people in owner-occupied accommodation increased steadily throughtout the period but the percentage of renters declined. Despite this, these interests on households equalized in 1971.
The percentage of households in owned accommodation had just over 20% in 1918, whitch tell to just over 30% in 1939. After they remained unchanged between 1939 and 1953. In 1961, there was another dramatic increase to exactly 40%. Afterwards, before a slight decrease in 2011 ,the interests increased to a high point less than 70% in 2001.
In 1918, the percentage of renters reached more than 70%. It was the highest point. Then these interests dropped to just under 30% gradually in 2001. Before the percents of people living in rented accommodation stabilized between 1939 and 1953. After there was slight resurgence to just over 30% in 2011.
