The bar chart compares the preferred modes of transport among young people in four countries.
Overall, cars are the most popular transport option across all countries, while the use of bicycles and motorcycles shows more variation. Notably, bicycle usage is highest in France, whereas motorcycles are generally the least favoured mode.
Looking at the UK and the United States, cars are equally dominant, with 60% of youth using them in both countries. In contrast, motorcycles are far more popular in the US, where 30% rely on them, compared with only 10% in the UK. By contrast, bicycle usage shows the opposite trend, with 30% of British youth cycling regularly, while only 10% do so in the US.
Moving to the France and Italy, cars remain the leading mode of transport, particularly in Italy, where approximately 75% of young people use them. Bicycle use peaks in France at around 45%, making it the most popular choice there, whereas motorcycles are chosen by only about 10% of youths in both countries. It is also clear that Italy’s reliance on cars is significantly higher than in France, bringing out a strong national preference.
