Nowadays, with people living longer than in the past, many people argue that the elderly population causing issues for governments. On the other hand, some believe that it benefits the society if people live longer.
Older people can cause many problems to governments, such as use of financial aid, and medical treatments. Many retired residents do not have enough money to cover the cost of living, consequently, they use government funds from taxes. This can cause significant lack of funding sources to cover other expenses, like the military budget.
Moreover, most of the elderly population need to use the medical system often, which sometimes prevent younger people from getting the help they need.
In contrast, seniors have plenty of free time, which they can use to contribute to the community. For example, many retired people can volunteer in community services, such as health centers for people with disabilities. In addition, older people can teach young generation new skills and manners, due to the fact they have more life experience. For instance, in the city where I live, seniors are giving lectures at schools on how to behave and become good members of society.
In conclusion, while the growth of people who live longer life is concern many people because of the financial and health consequences that may occur, it benefits the human society by teaching the next generation how to become more social and by volunteering at community centers.
