Band 8+: What are the causes of this way of thinking, and what effects does it have on individuals and society?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many societies today, success is increasingly measured by wealth and social status. People often believe that having a high income, expensive possessions, or a powerful position means they have achieved success in life. This way of thinking has become more common due to changes in modern society and culture. while valuing financial achievement can motivate people to work hard, judging success mainly by money and status also brings several negative effects to individuals and society as a whole.

One major cause of this mindset is the strong influence of media and advertising. Television, social media, and online platforms frequently show wealthy lifestyles as symbols of happiness and success. Famous celebrities and business leaders are praise for their riches, which encourages others to follow the same path. In addition, economic competition in modern societies pushes people to focus on financial security, making wealth seem like the most reliable measure of achievement.

This way of thinking can have serious effects on individuals. People may feel constant pressure to earn more money or gain higher status, leading to stress and anxiety. Some may ignore personal values, relationships, or mental health in order to succeed financially. at the societal level, this mindset can increase inequality, reduce compassion, and weaken community bonds, as people become more focused on personal gain than collective well being.

In conclusion, measuring success by wealth and status is mainly caused by media influence and economic pressure. Although financial achievement is important, relying on it as the main standard of success can harm both individuals and society. A healthier society should encourage balanced values, where success also includes happiness, relationships, and personal growth, not just money and status.
