The line graph illustrates changes in global demand for several types of garments between 1980 and 2015. Overall, although cotton was demanded the most at beginning of the period, but by mid of the period was overtaken by polyester. Wool was the least demanded and was eventually overtaken by cellulosic.
The demand for cotton, which stood at nearly 15million tons in 1980, underwent to 25 million tons in 2000.There was a marked decrease, from 25 to 20, in the number of demand between 2000 and 2003. By the end of the period, the number of demand rose gradually to almost 34millon tons. Starting at nearly 8 million tons in 1980, The number of tons went up 20 in 1995, and this year two figure(cotton and polyester) converged upon same demand level. Afterwards in 1996, the number of demand for polyester surpassed demand for cotton. Eventually, the figure peaked at just below 70millon tons
