Overall, Japan visitors made up the bulk of the visiting countries, whereas China visitors were responsible for a far smaller numbers. The number of annual visits to Australia by overseas residents witnessed a dramatic increase, reached a peak at the end of the period.
In terms of Japan and South Korea visitors, and overwhelming majority of respondents, at 3.2 million and 2.9 million, respectively, in 1975. By 2005, each of them increased four times, to become 12 million for Japan, and 9.1 million for South Korea. Interestingly, if we look at China, the USA, Britain, and Europe, we can see they together not exceed 10 million visitors.
With regard to the number of overseas residents, it began at around 8 million in 1975. It climbed at a rate of 8 million in each subsequent period until 2005. It then peaked at 32 million at the end of the period.
