The bar chart compares data on how household tasks time were distributed between two genders in five countries ( Japan, the USA, the UK, Italy and Canada) in 2024.
Overall, in these countries women spent more time on household chores than men. The gender gap was most significant in Italy and Japan, while Canada showed the smallest difference. Additionally, women from Italy witnessed the highest spending time on household tasks.
Firstly, regarding women, Italy recorded the highest average weekly hours at around 34 hours, following by Japan at approximately 32 hours. Women in the UK and Canada spent almost identical time, with 30 hours and approximately 28 hours. Moreover, American women spent the least time among other five countries, with about 26 hours per week.
On the other hand men, Canadian males spent the most time on household works, with about 21 hours every week, followed by the USA 18 hours and the UK 15 hours. Meanwhile, Japanese and Italian men spent less time on domestic chores, with 12 and 10 hours respectively.
