The bar charts compare the proportion of time working adults spent on four different activities in a particular country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, working took the largest share of time in both years, and it increased significantly over the period. In contrast, time spent on sleeping and going out declined, while relaxing at home became more popular.
In 1958, adults spent 33% of their time working, which rose to 42% in 2008, making it the most dominant activity. Sleeping was the second most common activity in 1958 at 32%, but this figure decreased to 25% fifty years later.
A notable decline can also be seen in the time spent going out, which dropped sharply from 19% in 1958 to only 6% in 2008. On the other hand, relaxing at home increased from 8% to 13%, indicating a shift towards more home-based leisure activities.
