Overall, the area has become more commercial. The most noticeable change is that there are much more sites where attract people live and work. Another significant development is that many old site was removed and replaced by the new one. While some original features remain, several new facilities have been added.
In 2000s, the area was largely open space with an small woodland in the north- eastern corner. At that time, there was market in the west side and it was located below a train station. A single road for cars, buses and so on ran along the river. The city centre occupied most of the central part of map, but it was not haven any funtion. To the north of Nelson, there was a university for students next to a small house. In the south of town, a port was built near the river to serve sea traffic.
By present, the area had been completely transformed and just retained many sites such as: university and port. The little woodland in the north-easter corner was cut down and replaced by a new shopping center for urban people. A hall of residence was constructed to provide house for people and avoid land shortage. The city center was haven a funtion that stored bike for renting. The train station was relocated into a space between city centre and university and there was built tramline to link two sites together. The old market was demonlished and new market was introduced with a roof in the right-hand side. The road was converted into a path for pedestrian. Moreover, a restaurant was added in the left of port, bars and clubs was built in the right of port. As a result, the area can be developed economy, tourism and commerce.
