It is widely believed that the most suitable way to punish criminals is arresting them in prison. However, others argue that there are more efficient actions that could be taken for offenders. While I believe that to make criminals understand their wrong, other factors should contribute to the process of punishing them.
To begin with, the majority of population agree to keep wrongdoers in prison because there they will be kept under the authority of the police department. However, for the public’s view, it is often seen as prisoners live completely stable life, out of worries of paying rent and budgets, only limitation set to their freedom. Moreover, most prisons finance from the fund given by the government, which is almost public’s purse the taxes. That so, there is a concern whether criminals regret in their violent action that caused severe damage in someone’s life. Also, there are cases where offenders do harmful actions again even after recently coming out of prison.
Furthermore, some believe that other approaches would make significant contribution in punishing wrongdoers. Depending on the level of the damage and harmfulness they make, it is better to keep criminals who did felony in strict prison under control. Whereas punish the people who got misdemeanor charge by alternative approaches, such as community service, rehabilitation and fine. The authories, therefore, using the fund more efficiently and productively. Moreover, these activities would prevent offenders to repeat recidivism.
To conclude, the prison is an appropriate place for offenders. However, to reduce the rate of crime other solutions can allocate a better significance than prison alone.
