In 1999, families in cities had more than 10% access to the internet while families in countryside experienced only a slight increase in network availability. The percentage of internet availability in urban areas increased one-half compared to its previous year. However, the percentage in rural areas had a slight increase but still remained below 10%. From the year 2000 until 2002, there was a dramatic increase in network availability for people living in the city. For the next two years, there had only been a mere increase and ended with approximately 55% internet access for families in urban areas. As for the rural areas, there was a drastic increase from the year 2001 until 2004, and ended around 33% internet availability. As the urban areas remained higher, the rural areas showed an improvement in development.
