The diagram illustrates the process of recycling aluminium cans.
Overall, there are several stages, beginning with collecting the used cans and ending with producing new recycled cans.
In the first stage, the used cans are dumped into the recycling bins and collected by trucks. After that, these cans are transported to a recycling facility. There, the cans are cleaned to remove impurities, such as dirt, grease and other contaminants before being sorted to select suitable cans. In the next step of this process, the sorted cans are shredded and crushed to small pieces by a special machine. Then, these pieces are compressed into blocks and smelted at a high temperature to liquid aluminium.
Afterwards, the liquid is poured into molds and shaped into rolls of thin sheets, measuring between 2.5 and 6 millimeters in thickness. According to the UK report, three-quarters of recycled cans can be used to manufacture beverage cans or other food containers.
