Band 6+: These days, people prefer to throw damaged items away, while in the past, they used to repair and use things for a long time. Why do you think this change has happened? What are the effects of this change?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the modern age, people always try to avoid old things when they buy new ones. However, in the past old things were repaired and used again. I believe that people throw away old things because they do not want to hold negative energy in their space.

Some individuals want to get away from used items such as clothes, books and furniture in the home. For example, many people want to make full decluttering for their space and create it as they want. For this reason they buy new things to replace outdated products. Influencers and famous psychologists on social media often say that old things hold negative energy and it may lead to financial issues and new things would not come to the life. Subsequently, a large number of individuals believed in that and got rid of the chaos. From my point of view, it is significant to get rid of used items that are unnecessary and cannot be in use again. Because, when you have chaos in your space, it means that you have chaos in your mind. It plays crucial role in people’s lives to clean their area and brain too.

One major factor is that today’s people think about creating a comfortable life. Because they do not want to live as their parents or grandparents no longer. For instance, older generation always saved unwanted items for special events and believed that they would be necessary in one day. However, this day never happened. I think, that is why the younger generation tend to throw away old-fashioned items. However, this trend leads to excessive waste and environmental pollution. Environment can be easily damaged by people so, we have to find another eco-friendly way of throwing away second-hand possessions such as giving clothes for charity and helping for orphanages with furniture and books that can be used again.

In conclusion, I widely believe that the consumerism and desire for convenience are the main causes of this phenomenon. Although, replacing old items may create a more accessible lifestyle, it also leads to environmental degradation.
