The person I would like to describe, who I consider to be the most influential teacher in my life, is actually my father. We share the exact same name, as I am his junior. While he wasn't a classroom teacher by profession, he was my primary mentor and a profound educator when it came to life, leadership, and community service. His teaching style was defined by unwavering support rather than academic pressure. He taught me the value of discipline and dedication, which inspired me to excel in school, eventually leading me to become high school valedictorian and graduate magna cum laude from college with a degree in teacher education. I essentially learned how to teach by watching him. The most significant lesson he ever taught me happened right after my graduation. He suggested that I run for a community youth leadership position. I was extremely hesitant because I am naturally a quiet, introverted person who preferred reading books alone in my room. But my father used this as a teachable moment. He pushed me out of my comfort zone, guided me through the campaign, and helped me secure a landslide victory. Once I was elected, he gave me a core leadership philosophy that I still follow today. He said, an effective leader doesn't just create followers; they cultivate new leaders. When the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic hit our community, I relied heavily on his masterclass in crisis management. Under his guidance, my team pivoted our strategy to provide home-to-home health campaigns and local livelihood programs as part of the post-COVID rehabilitation programs. In the end, our efforts were recognized with a national award from the National Youth Commission in the Philippines. The greatest milestone of my early career was a direct result of my father's lessons. He proved to me that the best teachers don't just deliver lectures in the classroom; they teach by example, and his life remains the perfect blueprint for how I want to teach others.
