In my opinion, a healthy diet and consistent physical activity are essential for both longevity and overall health.
Admittedly, some individuals manage to live long lives despite having unhealthy lifestyles. This is often due to favorable genetic factors or fortunate circumstances. For example, there are cases of people who smoke, consume unhealthy foods, and rarely exercise, yet still reach an advanced age. Furthermore, modern medical treatments can help manage various diseases and extend life expectancy. Therefore, it could be argued that diet and exercise are not the only determinants of a long life.
However, these examples are exceptions rather than the rule. A nutritious diet provides the body with essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients required for proper functioning. People who consume balanced meals are less likely to suffer from obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses. As a result, they generally enjoy a higher quality of life and remain physically active for longer.
Regular exercise is equally important. Physical activity strengthens the cardiovascular system, improves mental health, and helps maintain a healthy weight. In addition, exercise reduces stress and lowers the risk of numerous diseases. Scientific research consistently demonstrates that individuals who engage in regular physical activity tend to live longer and experience fewer health complications than those who lead sedentary lifestyles.
In conclusion, although genetics and medical advancements play significant roles in determining life expectancy, I firmly believe that a healthy diet and regular exercise are fundamental requirements for a long and healthy life.
