The charts illustrate the main reasons why people chose to work from home and the number of hours worked by males and females in 2019.
Overall, saving money was the most common motivation for both genders. Additionally, there was a clear contrast in working hours, with men tending to work significantly longer hours from home than women.
In terms of reasons, 45% of men and 42% of women worked remotely to save money, making it the dominant factor. Improving productivity was the second most common reason, cited by 24% of males compared to only 11% of females. By contrast, childcare was a much more significant factor for women, accounting for 26%, which was considerably higher than the figure for men at just 4%.
Regarding working hours, a large majority of men (81%) worked over 30 hours per week from home, whereas only 6% of women did so. In contrast, most women worked fewer than 10 hours weekly, at 74%, compared to just 3% of men. The proportion of those working between 10 and 30 hours was relatively similar, with 16% for males and 22% for females.
