The pie charts compare the proportions of people employed in five different job categories in the United Kingdom in 1991 and 2001.
Overall, the largest proportion of employees worked in the “Other” category in both years, although this figure declined slightly. By contrast, the shares of technicians and service and sales workers increased, while the proportions of managers and professionals remained relatively stable.
In 1991, the “Other” category accounted for around half of total employment, making it the largest sector. Managers and professionals represented similar proportions of the workforce, while technicians had the smallest share.
By 2001, the proportion of people employed in the “Other” category had fallen moderately. Meanwhile, the percentages of technicians and service and sales workers increased slightly. The figures for managers and professionals changed very little over the ten-year period.
