The chart provides information about the percentage of urban/suburban and rural households that could connect to the Internet in a European country from 1999 to 2004.
Overall, the Internet was more popular among families in urban/suburban regions compared to rural areas. Besides, the internet became more accessible for residents in all areas in this country.
In 1999, there were about 15% of households in urban and suburban areas, before doubling in the next year. Afterward, this figure grew by 10% per year, reaching 50% in 2002. However, this rate was slower from 2002 to 2004. In particular, the Internet was installed in 55% of families last year.
From 1999 to 2002, a similar upward trend was witnessed in the figures for rural areas. Specifically, while the percentage of rural families owning the Internet connection was 2% in the first year, this figure reached 15% in 2002. In addition, due to an increase of 10% in these figures in the latter period, there were 35% of households equipped with the Internet in 2004.
