Overall, China was the primary producer and consumer of electricity in 2014, outstripping other nations. Furthermore, while the vast majority of these top ten nations generated a surplus, Germany stood out as the sole exception, with its consumption notably exceeding its production.

Regarding the production of electricity, China, the United States, and Russia ranked highest, reaching 5396 billion kWh, 4099 billion kWh, and 1057 billion kWh in that order, with Japan and India following. The remaining countries including Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and the Republic of Korea produced around 550 billion kWh of electricity, which was nearly half that of Russia.

In contrast, the use of electricity remained relatively lower for all countries, except for Germany. China was still the dominant consumer, amounting to 5322 billion kWh. The United States and Russia accounted for over 1000 billion kWh whereas the rest of the countries consumed electricity ranging from 856.7 billion kWh to 449.5 billion kWh.
