Band 7+: Some people believe that schools and universities should focus primarily on practical skills and subjects that improve employment prospects and prepare students for real life, rather than concentrating on academic and intellectual development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, there is an ongoing debate about whether universities should give greater importance to practical skills rather than academic subjects. I completely agree with this view because practical education prepares students for employment and helps them deal with real-life situations.

To begin with, practical skills help students become job-ready. Because students receive hands-on training, they can perform workplace tasks effectively. Employers value practical experience, and graduates find jobs more easily. For example, engineering students who complete internships are often better prepared for their careers. As a result, they are more confident and have a greater chance of securing suitable employment after graduation.

Moreover, practical education enables students to solve real-life problems. Since learners apply their knowledge in practical situations, they improve their problem-solving and decision-making skills. They become more independent, and they adapt to workplace challenges more quickly. For instance, nursing students who gain clinical experience during their studies can provide better patient care after graduation. Consequently, practical learning makes graduates more capable of meeting the demands of modern workplaces.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that universities should focus more on practical skills than academic subjects. Although theoretical knowledge is important, practical education better equips students for successful careers and prepares them for real-world challenges.
