Government expenditure on the arts is a necessity, despite the belief that the money should be spent on public services. I strongly disagree with the statement, I believe that art is a representation of country’s cultural heritage, as well as contributing factor to the advancement of tourism. In this essay, I will discuss the topic, while presenting the advantages that come with investment in this sector.
The first and foremost reasoning behind my perspective would be the significance that art, music, literature, and architecture have in creating a country’s image. Without proper investment these fields may struggle to protect and promote the traditional values of a certain country. Georgia, for instance, is known for having historical churches dating back more than 1500 years. In order to preserve the country’s heritage, the government is actively investing in the restoration of these churches, one of which is Svetitskhoveli. Ultimately, these are the creations of our ancestors that display where we come from, therefore it is important that more money is accounted to them.
Another significant advantage that comes from proper investment in the arts is the economic benefits through tourism. Museums, galleries, and cultural festivals can encourage people to travel for the purpose of experiencing foreign cultures. Louvre, One of the greatest museums, for instance, is an interesting site for a lot of people. It attracts millions of visitors annually and is one of the biggest contributors to France’s travel industry. In the end, I believe that investment in this area often has a profitable return and almost pays for itself through tourism.
In conclusion, I do not agree with the given view, since I strongly believe in the significance of cultural heritage and the advantages that come with the investment in the arts.
