While some individuals choose to directly aid people in need, others believe that donating money to charitable organizations is a better choice. In my opinion, donating to non-profit organizations is a more reliable choice, since direct aid can be misused.
Some people believe that personal support is a better choice as some part of the donated money inevitably gets allocated to organizational costs, such as logistics, equipment, and staff salaries. By contrast, directly giving them money or any kind of help ensures that they get the 100 percent of the given help. Another benefit of personal support is contributing to local communnity. Large charities often distribute resources all over the country or even the world, but impact of helping out a struggling family in the neighbourhood can be seen with person’s own eyes.
That said, direct aid is often limited by geography, and a person who is able to meaningfully provide support rarely lives in the area where the help is most needed. These charities exist exactly to address this issue. Their primary goal is to provide support for people that need urgent help. Although the argument about organizational costs deserves merit, its cost is nothing compared to aid they provide. For example, international non-profit foundations have resources to deliver humanitarian aid, including food and medicine in the most adverse situations like flood, famine, or hurricanes.
In conclusion, personally helping those in need can be a better choice for witnessing the impact of actions directly. However, I still think that these intiatives are a better choice since they create the most impact by providing support for the people who need it the most.
