People obtain information through multiple channels. Depending on the generation and their preference, internet may be more welcomed by people who are tech-savvy whereas newspapers may be appealing to those who prefer to enjoy the most of lifestyle of old fashion. In the following sections, I’ll focus on internet and newspapers as medium of information gathering among public. I disagree that newspapers are becoming a thing of the past, as it still remain an important source of information among people who are intellectually developed.
As technology advances, people have more digital choices in gathering information online through the internet. This provides fast communication and convenience for the exchange of news without bearing additional cost. However, it is still one of the channels that most people use and it is not replacing other medium as people may have distinct preferences. For example, newspapers are still widely read in library, sold in stores, and produced by major journalism agencies. There’s a relatively large market for it even if the internet can be a source that provides advantages, it cannot replace people’s habit to enjoy the moment of reading from paper and getting an experience that internet may not be able to offer.
Newspapers indeed provides an experiential channel to many old-fashioned people who want to drink a coffee and read the paper-based news as a way of enjoying a certain high quality lifestyle. In addition, there might be information exclusively reported through newspapers, which does not publish the same content online.
In conclusion, I disagree that newspapers are outdated as internet replaces it. Both channels remain valid and popular among different social groups and exhibit advantages and disadvantages for the readers. As long as the individiaul needs and preferences can be satisfied, both channels can function towards different objectives.
