Knowledge of the English language is usually regarded more significant than learning local languages. This essay is going to assess the importance of studying English as well as the importance of local languages followed by my personal opinion.
English is one of the most widely spoken languages worldwide therefore it is essential to be able to communicate in this language. One can almost always find a person who can converse in English no matter how remote or how backward the location is. I believe it is more important to be taught English in school because it cannot be learnt naturally like local languages. It requires teaching efforts. If a child grows up in a village in Zimbabwe for example, they are naturally going to learn the Shona language they hear conversations in Shona everydayWith English, however,a teacher would be required from the beginning because the child is not familiar with the language.
The knowledge of English opens up many opportunities for people. It is mandatory for many jobs especially where it is the native language.People who can communicate in English have more chances of getting jobs anywhere around the globe. Some international sport stars struggle to communicate in English during interviews and this is a strong argument as to why learning English is more important. Local languages are spoken locally,as the name implies. They are not of much use in a non-local scenario therefore less important.
However,it is important to learn local languages because they are used in everyday life. Not everyone will end up in a situation where is it necessary to know Enlglish.Additionally, local languages are part of history and culture so it is equally important to acquire knowledge of these languages.
Learning English in school is important because it opens up opportunities for many.Local languages are also important as they give people an idea of their origins but in my opinion,it is much more important to learn English than local languages.
