The chart below provides the percentage of the dissemination of Global car sharing usage in North America, Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia between 2008 and 2016.
Overall, North America and Europe have higher rates of car sharing utilization in both years, while South America, Australia, and Asia are low in percentage of worldwide use.
In 2008, Europe took the lead in car sharing scheme with a significant rate of 59%, while North America had 32% which was almost half the percentage of Europe but still higher compared to other countries. In contrast, South America, Australia and Asia were just below 10%, with only 2%, 4% and 5%, respectively.
By the year 2016, North America was leading with a percentage of 51% which was 20% increase. Europe’s car sharing scheme decreased drastically by 26%, reached at 33%. Although the other three countries showed a slight increase of 2%; however they still remained below 10%. South America had 4%, Australia had 5%, and Asia had 6%.
