Band 8+: With recent developments in technology like e-books, some people feel that printed media like books, newspapers, and magazines will soon be a thing of the past.Others feel that these forms of media will never disappear.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The rapid development of electronic products, such as e-books, has sparked a debate regarding the future of printed media, including books, newspapers, and magazines. While some individuals anticipate the eventual obsolescence of traditional printed media in favor of technological devices, others argue that these forms of media will endure indefinitely. In my opinion, the likelihood of them being replaced in the near future is low.

On one hand, I disagree with the notion that technological devices will monopolize the reading landscape in the future, as traditional printed books possess undeniable advantages. Reading non-digital books can help develop children’s concentration skills. Firstly, they are more likely to focus and search for information they wish to comprehend. Secondly, many students use smartphones or computers to complete their assignments, often being distracted by messages from friends or social media. A recent study revealed that the attention span of students reading printed books was twice as long as that of students using e-books.

On the other hand, printed books are physically healthier for humans than electronic screens. Non-screen books lead to fewer eye-related issues compared to screen-based products, as individuals are not exposed to the blue light emitted by computer screens, smartphones, and tablets. Furthermore, reading printed books before bedtime can stimulate the release of hormones, thus aiding in the facilitation of sleep.

In conclusion, although technological advancement is an irreversible trend, its drawbacks should not be overlooked. The benefits of traditional media, such as enhancing concentration and promoting health, lead me to believe that the advantages of printed books far outweigh the benefits of technological reading progress. Therefore, I am of the opinion that traditional printed media will not be swiftly replaced by technological devices.
