The line graphs illustrate how the ownership of washing machine, refrigerator and vaccum cleaner has changed in households followed by the time spent in doing house chores from 1920 to 2019 in a country.
Overall, significant majority of houses owned the electrical aplliances in the given period. As a result of which hours spent in doing household activites declined in the same period.
In 1920, 30% of the houses had vaccumcleaner. This figure then rose dramatically to 90% in 1980. Furthermore, the households owning vaccumcleaner kept on climbing reaching the highest of 100% in 2000 and it remained stable until 2019. Similarly, use of refrigerator began after 1920 and proportion of houses having them increased drastically to the peak of 100% by 1980. The figure the hivered around this for the later years.
In case of washing machine, there has been slight fluctutaion in ownership. Around 40% of houses owned them in 1920 gradually rising by 30% in 1960 before slightly declining by nearly 10% until 1980. However, by 2019 the figure showed some recovery reaching to around the point from where it declined. Additionally, the number of hours spent in house works has declined sharply from 50 hours per week in 1920 to nearly 20 hours per week in over 40 years period. Also, there has been gradual decline In working hours of household chores in the later years reaching to nearly 10 hours per week by the final year.
