Overall, we can see that the winner in both 2003 and 2008 was thriller, even though there was a slight decrease in the two years. Whereas comedy still remained the lowest figure from 2003 to 2008 and was the smallest contributor in both charts.
In the year 2003, there was the largest fraction at 42% for thriller, making it the Oscar winner in this year. Besides that, documentary and action films also contributed a significant percentage to the total chart at 13%. However, some film gernes such as romance, science fiction, and horror maintained medium figures at 12%, 10%, and 7% respectively. Howerver, for some reason, comedy was the lowest contributor at 3% in this year.
By 2008, the chart showed slight changes in the total percentages of Oscar winners by film genre. There was a decrease for thriller, but it was still the largest figure at 35%. Documentary increased rapidly to 17% compared to 13% in 2003, making it the second largest percentage in the pie chart. In addition, there was similarity between romance and action at 12%. Furthermore, some contributors were still in low percentages such as science fiction and horror films at 11% and 10%, respectively. Despite the significant changes in other figures, comedy still remained the smallest percentage at 3%, which did not differ from the original year 2003.
