The given charts illustrate the information about purposes of trips made by US residents and travel problems they experienced in the year 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the main reason why Americans travelled was to commute to and from work. It is also noticeable that the primary concern of people was the cost of travelling.
As can be seen from the bar chart, 49% of trips were for commuting; however, the purpose of visiting friends or relatives just made up only 6%. The sector of social or recreation accounted for one-tenth, compared to 16% in shopping and 19% in ‘personal reasons’ groups.
According to the pie chart, price was the main consideration of American travellers. Almost one in five people thought that safety was the most important problem while aggressive drivers and highway congestion comprised 17% and 14% of main issues for the travelling public. Finally, a total of 14% made by Americans cited access to public transport or space to pedestrians as their foremost concerns.
