With the technology advancement and scarce of skilled worker teaching methods of universities is a topic of considerable debate. While some argue that universities should focus on practical skills for future employment, while other still focusing on old method. In this essay will examine both sides of the argument before presenting my opinion.
From one point of view, with the advancement in technology especially in automation, the current job market needs skilled workers. With this trend freshly graduate students are hard to secure their job. Most of the company recruitment nowadays asking for the hands on experience. Not only this by having a practical skills make students adapt to real-world challenges as quickly as possible. The fact that the working environment always different from the campus. That is the reason most of the universities allow internships programs during the academic final years, especially for the engineering and science programs. Later they need to apply these hand-on experience on their projects and present them for their graduating paper. Some secure their jobs during their internship with their outstanding performance.
On the other hand, academic knowledge provides a strong foundation in theoretical concepts, which is essential for understanding advance topics and innovations. For example while we are innovating in a new project, we need strong foundation in concepts, theoretical, and critical thinking. We not only need team work and collaborating analytical skills to success this project. Without the strong foundation in these during our study it really find it difficult to foster the projects like new concept and innovation. Moreover, with the every day conflict int the work problem-solving skills is also crucial. Without having a proper skills it is hard to solve the dispute between co-workers. For example in a medical field, if you don’t have a proper conceptual abilities, you will find it difficult to find the proper medical prescription.
In my opinion while the benefits academic knowledges are undeniable, we also do not neglect practical skills. With the changes of job markets trend there are applied science Universities in Germany which apply 50% academic and 50% jobs. They help almost 93% of students secure their jobs after graduation. By balancing the academic and practical skills helps students not only stabilize their foundation, but also their job readiness capability.
