In several nations, there has been an increasing number of people who prefer to live alone rather than grouping. The main reason for this trend is the lack of trust in society. In my opinion, this situation has more drawbacks than benefit, which will be elaborated in the following paragraph.
The trend of living alone might be beneficial to individuals, as they do not have to support others’ lives financially and emotionally. For example, In Indonesia, there are many people who earn minimum wage, which are impossible for them to meet others’ needs aside from their own needs. Therefore, it is better for them to develop their financial condition before building relationships with others. Furthermore, if individuals are not financially and socially successful, they are likely to be judged by society severely, especially the ones around them. This condition further pushes the reason for living alone.
On the other hand, living on their own might put them in a hard time as they need to navigate daily challenges solely. That is to say, if individuals do not have sufficient practical skills, they might face hardship living on their own. For example, in Japan, there are many old people living in apartments alone cannot take care of themselves. As a result, their apartments are filthy and the smelly scene disturb their neighborhoods. Moreover, living alone can turn people into self-centered individuals and making them devoid of empathy to others in need.
In conclusion, living alone can be advantageous, since individuals only need to take care of their own, which will help them save money and avoid others’ judgements. However, for this condition can bring more challenges for someone who is ill-prepared as well as make them more insensitive.
