Some educators think that international exchange visits would be helpful for teenage school students, while others believe it may be disadvantageous. I believe that international exchange visits are very beneficial and will give reasons as to why.
International exchange visits may pose some issues and challenges. Firstly, international exchange programs may be expensive for some families, as they have to pay for airfare, accommodation, program fees, and daily expenses, and this may pose a financial burden on the family. Secondly, being far from home can worry parents, especially if the country has safety issues, rampant crime, or emergencies like natural disasters or political instability. Due to this, parents may feel anxious about their child’s health and well-being.
Nevertheless, I believe that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Firstly, international exchange programs allow students to develop their linguistic abilities through real-life interactions, such as commuting, shopping, and socializing. This immersive experience helps them pick up the language faster than in a classroom. These skills not only enhance their chances at find jobs but also contribute to their personal growth. Secondly, international exchange programs provide teenagers with exposure to new cultures. To expand, by living in a different country, students experience diverse traditions, customs, and ways of life in their day to day activities, such as attending local festivals, trying new cuisines, or adapting to different social expectations and norms. This exposure not only broadens their perspectives and worldview but also fosters empathy and respect for other cultures.
In conclusion, although international exchange visits can be expensive and cause anxiousness and stress for the parents, they ultimately allow students to become much more knowledgeable as they learn about new cultures and languages. Additionally, it can even help them become more resilient and independent as they have to manage their life on their own.
