Band 8+: Somes countries are struggling with increases in crime rates. Some believe that having more police on the streets is best way to reduce and combat crime. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a prevailing notion that crime levels have increased in several nations, and many believe that the only measure that could be taken to alleviate this problem is to employ more security forces on the roads. From my perspective, I totally disagree with this viewpoint on account of the reasoning presented below.

On the one hand, it is true that having more watchmen in the community can significantly decrease the rate of violations. First, since civic safety is strengthened on every route, offenders tend to take less part in illegal activities such as robberies or burglaries. This is owing to the fact that they are afraid of being caught and having to receive punishment for their actions. Second, when police officers are available throughout communal places, they are able to detect any criminal acts immediately, subsequently minimizing unnecessary losses. For example, if a thief breaks into a grocery store with the intention of taking all the money in the cash box, the detective can go there in a short time to prevent his law-breaking activity and protect the shop assistant.

On the other hand, there are various alternatives that could also mitigate the levels of criminal activities. One feasible solution is providing vocational training for the poor, which allows them to acquire essential knowledge and skills in order to find jobs. By giving the needy the opportunities to make their own living, they are less likely to break the law to generate illegal income. Another justifiable approach is to raise public awareness about the serious consequences associated with committing offenses. A prime example of this approach is broadcasting law trials through social media or television. By witnessing how wrongdoers are sent to prison due to their unlawful acts, individuals become more well-informed about the detrimental effects of lawlessness, eventually deterring them from getting involved in criminal activities.

To conclude, even though increasing the number of law enforcement officers on the streets is an effective measure to lower delinquency levels, I firmly believe that other solutions can be implemented to address this pressing issue.

While increasing police presence on streets may help deter criminal activities, it would be shortsighted to consider this the only solution to rising crime rates. I largely disagree with this narrow approach, as crime reduction requires a comprehensive strategy that addresses both immediate security concerns and underlying social factors. Undoubtedly, having more police officers patrolling […]
