Many people hold a strong belief that testing new medicines on animals is essential for human use while others believe it is cruel and unnecessary. In this essay, I will discuss both view of the statement.
There are two main reasons why using animals to test new medicines is necessary. First of all, using laboratory mouse or rabit helps the experiment process last a long time because these animals have a high reproductive ability, so extinction or reduction in number is very rare. Secondly, due to biological similarities between human and animals like chimpanzees, medical research can take action easily and will bring about the best results the human body will receive.
Despite the advantages metioned above, testing new medicines on animals is not right and inhumane. It is believed that these animals have the right to live and do not have to endure the physical and mental pain of being injected with new medicines into the body. Moreover, if the experiment is successful, the genes of these animals will be completely changed and affect their lives. On the contrary, if the experiment fails, they will die. Every years, animals are subjected to these medical experiements and large amout of money are spent on equipments as well as facilities. This may result in the country’s national budget decreased.
In conclusion, although testing new medicines on animals is necessary, it does harm the animals in many different aspects. In my view, animals can be used for experiments, but their safety must be guaranteed.
