Band 5+: Parents should be solely responsible to keep their children safe online. To what extent do you agree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays the topic of children’s access to the Internet is widely discussed. Some people hold the opinion that it is the parent’s responsibility to track and limit their child’s media consumption, while others insist that the government is the one who is responsible. I do not have a strong opinion on this phenomenon and would like to discuss it further in this essay.

To begin with, parents’s engagement in what their child accesses online is crucial. These days the Internet consists of tons of information, including the one that is completely inappropriate for the child and may harmfully affect the young one’s mind and psychological development. It is not achievable to filter by law or by the Internet provider all the unsuitable resources for the children’s mind. Furthermore, a parent is responsible not only for the direct limitation of the online access, but also for explaining to their youngs which resources are

Conversely, the role that the government plays in kid’s online access should not be underestimated. Firstly, the modern Internet contains plenty of resources, showing violation, misleading information and other data, access to which should be prevented. For instance, proper age-based content markers would be advantageous for ensuring children’s safety online. Secondly, the government is capable of implementing the necessary standardized platforms for kid’s usage, ensuring particular content regulations on such frameworks.

To sum up, a specific attention needs to be paid to children’s safety online these days. From my point of view, parents are fully responsible for their kid and what he or she could find online, therefore the necessary measurements from the government also should be implemented for the additional protection.
