It is undeniable that declining resources is a significant topic that gets widespread interest, but its potential implications are far from straightforward. Some people believe that recycling is far more effective than any other method. In my view, there will be a considerable difference if people reduce the amount of waste in resources rather than recycle. I will first examine the reason why using fewer materials is beneficial and then move on to outline the drawback.
It is often said that decreasing resources is effective because of waste reduction. In other words, there is a creation of “make, take and dispose” economy, in which people squander natural resources in numerous areas. Shamefully, researchers have shown the frequency of materials are found disposed were still functioning. There are concepts of leasing the number of resources which could assist decrease the use of materials in the longer term. In addition, it also provides a new standard such as “circular economy”, in which the central goal is to improve resource productivity by keeping goods as long as possible. As a result, it would significantly improve economy and might enhance the focus on longevity. An alternative view is that recycling is still necessary. Even with reduced consumption, waste will always exist. Recycling remains a crucial part of waste management. Despite this drawback, the topic of reducing materials is considerable. Many materials cannot be recycled, it is not a perfect solution and should not be prioritised over reducing consumptions.
In conclusion, it can be argued that declining resources is effective. However, it is a significant part of world. Its economic impacts may gain a greater influence on global economy. Therefore, if reducing materials were developed by people and governments, the effects would be even stronger.
