The two maps show the alterations that took place in a town called Shipsmouth over 15 years, ranging from 1995 to 2010.
Overall, it is evident from the picture that the area had been modernized by the end of the researched period, with the introduction of new recreational facilities and more residential areas. Additionally, the city centre had been pedestrianized for the comfort of visitors.
Looking at the changes that had happened in the western part of the map by 2010, we can see that the woodland area standing on the north-east side was chopped down to give way to new multi-storey apartment blocks. The factory, in the meantime, was demolished and replaced with a brand-new shopping centre, which caters to tourists. Just south of the city centre, a new football stadium had been erected by 2010. Furthermore, the second station – the northern station – was introduced to the site in 2010.
Turning to the eastern part of the location, the former church had been replaced with a pub, and trees in the south-east as well as one-storey houses above them had been taken down. The trees made way for a new national airport, whereas a modern skyscraper were constructed instead of the old houses.
