The maps illustrate the transformation of Shipsmouth from 1995 to 2010. Overall, noticeable changes were made, including the addition of new commercial and residential facilities to accommodate the town’s expansion. These developments came at the expense of green spaces, as previously vacant areas were utilized, while the lake itself remained unchanged.
In 1995, Shipsmouth featured trees in the northwest and southeast parts of the city, but by 2010, they had been removed to make way for apartment blocks and a completely new airport. The town became more accessible with new pedestrian walkways, replacing the former routes, and transformed commercially with the construction of a neatly designed shopping center that replaced a factory.
The changes were not limited to the town center. The old church, a symbol of community and faith, was replaced by a pub. The once-empty land was now occupied by a football stadium and soaring skyscrapers that altered the city’s skyline. Additionally, a new train station was built to the north of the original station, marking another significant development by 2010.
