Answers & Explanations Summary
| # | Answer | Evidence | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q15 | NOT GIVEN | Come to Darren's Bike Hire, where a large selection of bikes are all available for hire at only £25.00 a day (cost of basket and lock inclusive) | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage talks about what Darren's Bike Hire offers, like bikes for rent and how much they cost for one day. But it does not say anything about which days of the week the shop is open. Answer Explanation: The answer 'NOT GIVEN' means that the information about Darren's Bike Hire being open 7 days a week is not in the text. We cannot tell if it is true or false from the text. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'NOT GIVEN' because the passage gives details about the bikes available, hiring costs, booking via email, and family options, but it does not mention or give any information about the specific operating days or opening hours of Darren's Bike Hire. Therefore, we cannot confirm if it is open 7 days a week. |
| Q16 | TRUE | Come to Darren's Bike Hire, where a large selection of bikes are all available for hire at only £25.00 a day (cost of basket and lock inclusive) | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that at Darren's Bike Hire, many different bikes are 'all available' to rent for just '£25.00 a day.' This means every bike, no matter its type, costs the same amount to rent for one day. Answer Explanation: The answer means that it is true that all the bikes you can rent have the same price for the same amount of time. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is TRUE because the passage states that all different kinds of bikes can be rented for the same basic daily price. Even though the price changes if you rent a bike for more days or weeks, the passage makes it clear that the initial daily price applies to 'a large selection of bikes,' implying that all bikes themselves cost the same per day, regardless of their type or size. |
| Q17 | FALSE | Come to Darren's Bike Hire, where a large selection of bikes are all available for hire at only £25.00 a day (cost of basket and lock inclusive) | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that when you hire a bike for £25.00 each day, the basket and lock are already 'inclusive.' This means you don't pay more for them; they come with the bike at that price. Answer Explanation: The answer is FALSE. This means the statement, 'You have to pay extra for a basket and lock,' is not true. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is FALSE because the passage clearly states that the cost of a basket and lock is already 'inclusive' in the daily hire price. This means you do not have to pay extra money for these items; they are included in the original £25.00 a day charge. |
| Q18 | TRUE | This is particularly necessary during the school holiday period of July and August | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage explains that booking a bike is very important, or 'particularly necessary,' when children are on 'school holiday' in the months of 'July and August'. Answer Explanation: The answer 'TRUE' means that it is a good idea to book bikes at certain times of the year. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is TRUE because the passage mentions that booking bikes is especially important during specific times, like the school holidays. The word 'advised' in the question means it's a good idea, which matches 'particularly necessary' in the text, and 'some times of year' matches 'school holiday period of July and August'. |
| Q19 | FALSE | All sizes of bikes are available for hire and, for those too small to pedal themselves, there are bikes fitted with child seats | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage explains that there are many different sizes of bikes to rent. It also says that special bikes with child seats are available, but only for children who are too little to ride a bike by themselves. This means not every bike has a child seat. Answer Explanation: The answer 'FALSE' means that the statement is not true based on the information given in the text. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is FALSE because the text mentions that *some* bikes have child seats for very small children, not that *all* bikes include child seats. The passage states, "for those too small to pedal themselves, there are bikes fitted with child seats," meaning only specific bikes have this feature. |
| Q20 | FALSE | In addition, a £40.00 deposit must be paid. This is returned to the hirer on the safe return of the bicycle | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that you pay an extra £40.00 as a deposit. But don't worry, this money is given back to you when you bring the bike back safely. Answer Explanation: The answer is 'FALSE'. This means the statement, 'The deposit is non-refundable,' is not true. It means the deposit money *is* given back. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is FALSE because the passage states that the deposit money is given back to the person who rented the bike. The words 'returned to the hirer' mean the money is given back, which is the opposite of 'non-refundable'. |
| Q21 | TRUE | Rates are reduced for longer periods, especially in winter | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that the prices for hiring bikes go down, or 'are reduced', if you rent them for a longer time. It also says this happens 'especially in winter', meaning winter is a time when prices are lower. Answer Explanation: The answer is TRUE. This means the statement is correct based on the information in the text. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is TRUE because the passage clearly states that the costs for renting bikes become lower when it is winter. This means it is less expensive to hire a bike during colder months. |
| Q22 | Current Vacancies | Once you've found a post in the Current Vacancies that you'd like to apply for and viewed the job description, click the Apply Now tab below | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage explains that first, you need to find a job you are interested in. You will find this job listed in the 'Current Vacancies' section. After you see the job, you can click a button to start your application. Answer Explanation: The answer 'Current Vacancies' means the place on the website where you can see all the jobs that are open and waiting for people to apply. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'Current Vacancies' because the passage tells you to find a job you like in this specific section. It says you should look in 'Current Vacancies' to 'select a job' you want to apply for. |
| Q23 | First Time Applicant | Scroll down the section that says First Time Applicant to enter your email address, which is used to create your account | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage means you should move down the page to find the part called 'First Time Applicant'. In this part, you will write your email address to make your new account. Answer Explanation: The answer is 'First Time Applicant'. This is the name of the section where you go to create your new account. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'First Time Applicant' because the passage instructs new users to find this specific section to start their job application. It clearly states that after finding a job and clicking 'Apply Now', you will see a screen asking you to create a new account. Then, you should 'Scroll down the section that says First Time Applicant' to enter your email and create your account. |
| Q24 | sections / small sections | These are split up to enable you to work on small sections of the application at any one time | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage means that the application form is divided into many little parts. This helps you to work on just one part of the application at a time, making it simpler to fill out. Answer Explanation: The answer, 'small sections', means that the application form is broken into little parts. You can work on each small part one by one. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'small sections' because the passage explains how the application form is organized. It says that the tabs at the top of the form divide it into 'small sections' to make it easier for you to complete. This means you don't have to do the whole form at once, but can work on one small part at a time by using the tabs. |
| Q25 | name | When you have finished, click the Complete tab. You then type your name (this is instead of a signature) and click Submit | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that when you finish writing your application, you should click on the 'Complete' button. Then, you write your name in the box. This acts like signing your name on a paper. After that, you click the 'Submit' button to send your application. Answer Explanation: The answer 'name' means you need to write your full name in the application form. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'name' because the passage explains the final steps for sending your application. It says that after you click the 'Complete' tab, you need to 'type your name' before you click the 'Submit' button. This is done instead of signing with a pen. |
| Q26 | one sitting / 1 sitting | The application does not need to be completed in one sitting | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says you don't have to finish your application from start to end without any breaks. You can stop working on it and come back to it later. Answer Explanation: The answer 'one sitting' means you do not need to finish your job application all at the same time, without stopping. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'one sitting' because the passage clearly states that you don't have to complete the application all at once. The question asks about not needing to finish the application in a certain way and mentions taking a 'break' and continuing later. The phrase 'one sitting' directly means doing something without stopping, which matches the idea of not having to finish it all at once. |
| Q27 | recruitment office | You will need to submit an application form to the recruitment office for every position you are interested in being considered for | Excerpt/Passage Explanation: The passage says that if you want to apply for many different jobs, you have to send a separate application paper to the office that hires new people for each job you want. Answer Explanation: The answer, "recruitment office," means the department or place that helps a company find and hire new workers. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 'recruitment office' because the passage states that if you want to apply for more than one job, you must send a separate application form to the 'recruitment office' for each job. The question asks where a separate application is needed for multiple posts, and the text directly answers this by naming the 'recruitment office'. |
