An important choice that I had to make was during my college life. At that time, I had to decide between being a doctor and an engineer. Initially, my parents wanted me to become a doctor. Doctors help people at the ground level, and I have seen many doctors assisting rural communities in our country, where access to healthcare is not common in many villages. Doctors play a vital role in the overall health of non-urban populations. That is why my parents tried to persuade me to become a doctor. I was also quite motivated to become a doctor due to their encouragement, believing that I would be able to help different patients and make a change in their lives. Making a better future is one of my life goals, and I thought being a doctor might fit perfectly with that. However, I was very bad at biology, and during my admission process, I realized that while I had opportunities in medicine, I was much better at engineering. Even if I became an engineer, I would still be able to help people significantly. That is why I chose engineering, as I had a love for physics. Having a passion for your subject is very important. Helping people is a noble cause, but if you have a passion for the subject, you will be able to help people no matter what. I don't have a passion for biology, so if I pursued a medical career, I might not excel there, and my impact on the community would be less. Now, I am able to help people through cutting-edge research technology. I am making medical devices more efficient and robust. I am assisting with medical diagnosis by improving the scanning of images. I am contributing to point-of-care detection for various diseases like diabetes and leukemia. I am making a profound impact that I never thought was possible using medicine.
