The table illustrates the number of male and female certified English Teachers who lived in UK in 2007/8 and 2008/9 and obtained either TFL or Cambridge UCLES CELTA &other degrees. The table also demonstrates the percentage of certified male teachers.
Overall, the total number of qualified English tutors remained stable with minor changes minorly. The number of qualified female teachers marginally increased while the percentage of qualified male educators decreased. Meanwhile, there was a slight decline in the total TFL qualifiers comparing to graduates of Cambridge UCLES CELTA & other degrees numbers which relatively rose.
The number of total certified English teachers slightly improved from 32,930 in 2007/8 to 32,945 in 2008/9. Such improvement reflects a small growth in the number of women English teachers from 23,842 to 24,324 and a drop in the proportion of qualified men teachers from 24.7% to 22.7%.
In 2007/8 TEFL qualified tutors were 25,446 but it gradually dropped to 24,917 at the end of the period. In contrast. Cambridge UCLES CELTA & other degrees certification graduates figures jumped from 7,484 to 8,028 in 2008/9. Despite such growth, proportion of men teachers plummeted to 12.1% in 2008/9 instead of 17.3 in 2007/8.
