Overall, The majority of people who visited the British Library in both years went to borrow or return books. The number of people visiting the information center increased significantly for four reasons.
In 1991, the percentage of library users visiting in order to borrow and return books was largest, at approximately 65%. whereas The figure for those coming to the library to an obtain information was lower than the main reason, at almost 20%. The other two categories both considered for the lowest proportion, at roughly 15% and 10%.
The percentage of people using the library for reading purposes declined just below 5% in 2000. In addition, in 1991 roughly 15% went to read newspapers or magazines, and this figure dropped to just almost 5% in the final year. In 2000, libraries allowed their users to obtain information, and in the same year the study was approximately 10%.
