The presented bar charts delineate the fundamental changes in the proportion of females and males who had driving licenses in Great Britain from 1976 to 2006 and the percentage of male and female drivers aged 17-20 between 1996 and 2006.
Overall, it is evident that both figures of male and female drivers exhibited a consistent upward trend, while the proportions of males were higher than that of females, across the surveyed years. Also, after a decade from 1996 to 2006, the percentages of young male and female drivers experienced a general decrease, contrasting with the increase of the overall population.
Regarding the former chart, the statistics of males and females started at 70% and 30% in 1976, which then experienced gradual increases to 78% and 50% after around two decades, respectively. Also, even though the figures for male drivers saw a minor increase by 2% in the last decade, a significant increase was recorded in those for females, reaching 60% in 2006.
Concerning the latter chart, in 1996, the percentage of male drivers aged 17-20 was 50%, while only 30% was seen in the proportion of females. However, in the next 10 years, males saw a modest decline to 45% and the figures for females underwent a substantial decrease by 10%.
