Dear Susan,

I am writing to you to express my congratulations on getting promotion for the desired position in your company. I am ecstatic at your achievement. Everyone in the neighborhood was chatting about the outrageous party hosted at your residence. Please accept my apologies for missing out on your celebrations.

I promised to share in your joy but unfortunately, I had a family emergency which required my immediate attention. As you are aware of my mother’s condition that she has been suffering from chronic lung ailment. On the day of occasion, her health declined due to shortness of breath and she had been hospitalized immediately. Since, it was an emergency I could not inform you beforehand. I am planning to host a supper for you at my place next Saturday evening and I hope that will make up for skipping your commemoration.

I cannot wait to meet you and congratulate in person. Besides, I also seek your forgiveness for not honoring your invitation.
