The map shows the progress of a village called Chorleywood between 1968 and 1994. Overall, it can be seen that the village had grown following the transportation infrastructure. Four different periods of development are told on the map, and each populated area is near to either main road, railway, or motorway.
From 1968-1883, the Chorleywood village covered the ground near the main road which relied to the south. The village grew along the main road on the south side of the original village, and in 1909 was built a Railway that relied from west to east, and Chorleywood station was erected as part of the village.
The Chorleywood village had grown following the Railway on the south east of the railway and main road, and on the south railway near the station until 1970. After that, a motorway was built from north to the south across the mainway and railway. In 1909, the village was expanded further following the motorway, and in almost every corner or intersection between motorway and railway or mainway experienced by the growth.
