The map illustrates the development of Chorleywood village close to London over the course of almost 130 years from 1868 to 1994. It showcases how the population grew alongside different advances.
The village was initially created to the west of the Chorleywood Park and Golf course, right next to the main road in 1868 and continued to grow over 15 years till 1883. As the population continued to grow, a new settlement began being built directly to the south of the previous one from 1883, alongside the newly constructed railway station which was completed in 1909, and completed the new settlement by 1922. Subsequently, the villagers expanded alongside the railway, even going further west to the other side of the main road till 1970.
In 1970, the motorway was built which spanned the entire width of the golf course and beyond, and the villagers created more places to live on both sides of the motorway, to the north of the main road from the park, to the south east of the golf course, as well as to on the far side of the railway track.
